Most people think of chiropractors when they suffer back pain or neck pain. But chiropractic is your first line of defense against a wide variety of diseases. For example, studies show that chiropractic can boost your immune system to help your body fight off disease and heal appropriately.
Those studies date all the way back to the deadly flu pandemic in of 1918, which affected 500 million people around the world. Patients under chiropractic care fared better than the general population, with a death rate of .25 percent, compared with a rate of 5 percent among those without chiropractic care. The information was reported in Psychology Today on August 24, 2006.
Ronald Pero, Ph.D., conducted a three-year study with 107 people who had been under chiropractic care for at least five years. Pero, chief of cancer prevention research at New York’s Preventative Medicine Institute and professor of medicine at New York University, found that the chiropractic patients had an immune function 200 percent better than those who didn’t have chiropractic care. Compared to cancer patients and those with other serious diseases, the percentage was 400 percent. His results were published in The Chiropractic Journal in August 1989.
In yet another study, Patricia Brennan, Ph.D., took blood from patients 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after a chiropractic adjustment. Those patients had a significantly higher immune response than a control group of patients who received only a simulated adjustment. That study was published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics in 1991.
Why does chiropractic help your immune system work better? The fact is, your immune system and your respiratory system require uninterrupted communication with the brain to function correctly. If the bones in your spine have shifted out of place – known as spinal misalignment or subluxation – they may be exerting excessive pressure on the delicate nerves in the spine. When the spine is misaligned, the flow of energy is disrupted – much like a kink in a garden hose disrupts the flow of water.
The solution is to realign the spine back to health through Chiropractic BioPhysics, or CBP, one of the most researched, published, results-oriented and scientific corrective set of chiropractic techniques in the world.
